(a) A purchaser shall conduct operations under a contract under this chapter in a workmanlike manner and may not unnecessarily damage the land or resources in the sale area. Damage attributable to the purchaser's operations which, as determined by the director, is excessive or was avoidable must be corrected by the purchaser to the satisfaction of the director within the time designated by the director. The division will assess a purchaser's liability for damage in accordance with the purchaser's contract. (b) If a purchaser cuts or removes timber or material which is not designated for cutting or removal under the purchaser's contract, the purchaser is liable for damages as provided in the purchaser's contract.
