  • 	(a)  To meet the requirements of AS 08.71.110(a)(4), an applicant for a dispensing optician license to dispense  
    		(1) spectacles shall submit verification of completion of the Career Progression Program (CPP) sponsored by the National Academy of Opticianry (NAO) or another board-approved program that the board determines is equivalent;  
    		(2) contact lens shall submit verification of completion of the Contact Lens Manual: Volume 1, A Comprehensive Study and Reference Guide, sponsored by the Contact Lens Society of America.  
    	(b)  A registered apprentice applying for a dispensing optician license to dispense  
    		(1) spectacles who has accumulated at least 1,800 hours of training by January 1, 2003, may meet the requirements of AS 08.71.110(a)(4) by passing the CPP final examination without taking the CPP course; however, the apprentice must pass the CPP final examination in 2003 and may only take the examination once;  
    		(2) contact lens who has accumulated at least 1,800 hours of training by January 1, 2003, may meet the requirements of AS 08.71.110(a)(4) by passing the Contact Lens Manual: Volume 1, A Comprehensive Study and Reference Guide examination without taking the Contact Lens Manual: Volume 1, A Comprehensive Study and Reference Guide course; however, the apprentice must pass the examination in 2003 and may only take the examination once.
