Section 12.56.034. Qualifications to transfer a marine pilot license to a different pilotage region within the state.

(a) A marine pilot seeking to qualify to transfer the marine pilot's license to a different pilotage region within the state must (1) possess a valid United States Coast Guard license, with radar endorsement and an endorsement of first class pilotage without tonnage restrictions for the entire pilotage region in which licensure is desired, except as provided in 12 AAC 56.028(a) for the Southeastern Alaska Region and 12 AAC 56.028(c) for the Western Alaska Region; (2) possess a valid marine pilot license issued under AS 08.62 and this chapter; (3) complete the requirements of the training program specified in 12 AAC 56.035(a)(3) for the pilotage region in which the applicant will transfer; (4) comply with the application requirements of 12 AAC 56.025(j); and (5) pass the regional local knowledge examination described in 12 AAC 56.070(f) for the pilotage region in which the applicant will transfer. (b) Before a marine pilot may qualify to take the regional local knowledge examination described in 12 AAC 56.070(f) for the region in which the applicant will transfer, the recognized pilot organization that provided the training must submit to the department a letter stating that the applicant has completed the organization's approved training program described in 12 AAC 56.035(a)(3).
