Section 13.90.105. Training on reporting suspected abuse of children and vulnerable adults.

(a) A grantee shall provide training on the recognition and reporting of abuse or neglect to staff members who are required to report child abuse or neglect under AS 47.17.020 or the abuse of a vulnerable adult under AS 47.24.010. The training must take place (1) during the first month of employment, for new staff members; and (2) once a year, for all staff members. (b) As part of the training required under this section, a grantee shall require each staff member to read and sign a statement that clearly defines all forms of reportable abuse or neglect, and outlines the staff member's responsibility to report abuse or neglect. The statement must be retained in the staff member's personnel file. (c) A grantee shall develop a curriculum for the training required under this section, and shall review and update the curriculum annually. The curriculum must include information on (1) laws relating to child abuse and neglect and the abuse of vulnerable adults; (2) techniques for recognition and detection of child abuse and neglect and the abuse of vulnerable adults; (3) agencies and organizations in the state that offer aid or shelter to victims and the families of victims of child abuse and neglect and the abuse of vulnerable adults; (4) procedures for required notification of suspected abuse or neglect; (5) the role of a person required to report abuse or neglect, and the role of the grantee, after the report has been made; and (6) a brief description of the manner in which cases of abuse or neglect are investigated by the Department of Health and Social Services, the division of senior services of the Department of Administration, and law enforcement agencies after a report of abuse or neglect. (d) A grantee shall ensure that a current copy of the training curriculum required under (c) of this section is on file with the council.
