Section 2.39.380. Discontinuation of major medical insurance coverage.

(a) A new law benefit recipient who elects major medical insurance coverage under AS 14.25.168(d) or AS 39.35.535(c) may discontinue participation in that plan at any time by submitting a signed, written request to the administrator. If the request is received or postmarked on or before the 15th day of a month, the administrator will stop premium payments in that month. If the request is received or postmarked after the 15th day of a month, premium payments will be stopped no later than the month following the date of receipt or postmark. Coverage ends on the last day of the month after the month in which the last premium is deducted. A new law benefit recipient who discontinues coverage may not reapply for the coverage except as provided in 2 AAC 39.360. (b) A person who is paying premiums for major medical insurance directly to the insurance carrier may discontinue participation in the major medical insurance plan at any time by submitting a signed, written request to the insurance carrier. Coverage ends on the last day of the month for which the last premium was paid. (c) An alternate payee who discontinues major medical insurance coverage may not reapply for coverage.
