Section 22.05.180. Prisoner cleanliness and grooming.

  • 	(a)  A prisoner must maintain appropriate personal cleanliness and grooming consistent with posted standards of hygiene. Each prisoner must be issued items necessary to maintain personal cleanliness. Shower and bathing facilities must be made available at least three times weekly, unless ordered otherwise by facility health care personnel.  
    	(b)  The superintendent shall ensure that a prisoner who is assigned to work in the kitchen, dining room, or near machinery wears his or her hair in compliance with public health and safety regulations. Bathing must be required as necessary, to ensure sanitation in the delivery of food services.  
    	(c)  A prisoner must be permitted to adopt any hair style or length, including a beard and mustache if they are kept clean. If the length or style of a prisoner's hair is found to present a health or sanitation problem, the prisoner may be required to wash, trim, or cut his or her hair or wear a hair net or other covering to alleviate the problem.  
    	(d)  New identification photographs must be taken of a prisoner whose outward appearance differs from the photographs taken in accordance with 22 AAC 05.025.
