Section 22.05.585. Transportation of prisoners upon release.

Latest version.
  • (a) The department will bear the cost of transporting a prisoner to the place of arrest upon release, if the prisoner was admitted into a state facility. If a prisoner declines return transportation, or requests a destination different from the place of arrest, the prisoner must sign a written waiver. Transportation to an alternative site may be provided up to the actual cost of return transportation to the prisoner's place of arrest. This subsection applies only to prisoners who have been arrested, and not to persons taken into protective custody under AS 47.
    	(b) A prisoner released from custody who has never been admitted into a state facility in connection with the instant arrest or detention, or who has been admitted into a state facility under protective custody under AS 47, must contact the Department of Public Safety for return transportation to the place of arrest.
