(a) Each year, after computation of the Alaska school performance index under 4 AAC 06.812, the department will make a preliminary designation of a star rating to each school based on the following: (1) an index score of 94 - 100, five stars; (2) an index score of 85 - 93.99, four stars; (3) an index score of 65 - 84.99, three stars; (4) an index score of 55 - 64.99, two stars; (5) an index score of 0 - 54.99, one star. (b) Not later than August 1 of each year, the department will notify districts of the preliminary designation of the star rating of each school within the district. A designation of a school's star rating is final if the district does not, within 30 days after receipt of the preliminary designation, submit a request to have the designation reviewed under 4 AAC 06.875(b).
