(a) The State Board of Education and Early Development serves as the governing body of schools and other educational programs operated by the department. The state board may appoint advisory boards to give advice on the governance of those schools. At least 90 days before an expected vacancy on the program advisory board, the superintendent or director of each educational program operated by the department shall submit to the commissioner a nominee to fill the vacancy on a form provided by the department. (b) The State Board of Education will adopt policies relating to school management and control, and student admission and discipline, during regular school board meetings in the manner required by AS 44.62.310.
