(a) A herring purse seine may not exceed 100 fathoms in length and may not be more than 625 meshes in depth, of which no more than 600 meshes may have a mesh size larger than one and one-half inches. (b) In the Nunivak Island District, during the open herring fishing season described in 5 AAC 27.880, a herring fishing vessel may not have on board, or have on a vessel towed by it (1) more than a single herring purse seine as described in (a) of this section; or (2) any other assembled purse seine as described in 5 AAC 39.105(d)(4). (c) Herring may not be retained in a purse seine for more than 36 hours after the closure of a herring fishing period.
