(a) The Kodiak king crab fishery must be managed according to the guidelines set forth in this section. (b) To the extent possible individual king crab stocks must be managed as a single unit throughout their range. The department should avoid as much as possible small area closures that will leave a portion of a stock open to fishing. (c) Repealed 6/30/83. (d) The department shall manage the harvest during the season described in 5 AAC 34.410(a) (early season) so that approximately 10 percent of the estimated harvest for each stock will be retained to provide for a harvest during the season described in 5 AAC 34.410(b) (late season). (e) The late season will open between November 15 and December 15, if a significant portion of the early season harvest goals have been attained in the Northeast, Southeast, and Southwest districts. The late season must open no later than December 15.
