Section 5.35.521. Identification of Bering Sea Tanner crab.

(a) In the Bering Sea District, a Tanner crab with both eyes completely red in color and the margin of the upper lip (labrum) notched at two points with angular V-shaped cuts forming an 'M' shape is considered to be a C. bairdi Tanner crab. (b) In the Bering Sea District, a Tanner crab that does not display the characteristics described in (a) of this section is considered to be a C. opilio Tanner crab. (c) For the purpose of 5 AAC 35.510(f)(3) and 5 AAC 35.520(b), a hybrid Tanner crab that conforms to the description in (a) of this section is considered to be a C. bairdi Tanner crab, and a hybrid Tanner crab that does not conform to that description is considered to be a C. opilio Tanner crab. (d) For the purpose of this section, "red" means a primary color similar in hue to blood.
