(a) Octopus may only be taken as incidental bycatch in Registration Area A in pot and longline gear fisheries. (b) The guideline harvest range for octopus in Registration Area A is 0 - 35,000 pounds. (c) The maximum bycatch allowance for octopus that may be on board a vessel operating (1) pot gear is 35 percent by weight of the whole weight of the targeted species on board the vessel; and (2) longline gear is 15 percent by weight of the round weight of groundfish or halibut on board the vessel. (d) The commissioner may close, by emergency order, Registration Area A to the retention of octopus when the upper end of the guideline harvest range has been reached. (e) Octopus retained for sale or for personal use must be recorded on a fish ticket as specified in 5 AAC 39.130.
