Section 5.65.022. Special provisions for bag, possession, and annual limits, and methods and means in the Alaska Peninsula and Aleutian Islands Area.

  • 	(a)  Unless otherwise provided by emergency order, issued under AS 16.05.060, the special provisions regarding bag, possession, and annual limits, and methods and means in this section apply to sport fishing in the Alaska Peninsula and Aleutian Islands Area.  
    	(b)  In the King Salmon River,  
    		(1) except as provided in (2) of this subsection, a king salmon removed from the water becomes part of the bag limit of the person originally hooking it;  
    		(2) downstream from an ADF&G regulatory marker located 1,000 yards upstream from its mouth,  
    			(A) only unbaited, artificial lures may be used; and  
    			(B) king salmon fishing is open only for catch and release fishing; king salmon may not be retained or removed from the water before releasing the fish.  
    	(c)  In the Sandy River drainage.  
    		(1) only unbaited, single-hook, artificial lures or unbaited, single-hook, artificial flies may be used;   
    		(2) the bag and possession limit for king salmon 20 inches or greater in length is one fish per day and one fish in possession, with an annual limit of two king salmon 20 inches or greater in length;  
    		(3) rainbow/steelhead trout may not be retained; a rainbow/ steelhead trout caught in the Sandy River drainage must be released immediately.  
    	(d)  In the Nelson River drainage, upstream from its confluence with the Caribou River,  
    		(1) only one unbaited, single-hook, artificial lure may be used;  
    		(2) king salmon may not be possessed or retained; a king salmon caught must be released immediately; a person may not remove a king salmon from the water before releasing the fish.  
    	(e)  In the salt waters and all freshwater drainages of Unalaska Bay, the bag and possession limit for salmon, other than king salmon, is five fish per day, five fish in possession, of which no more than two fish may be coho salmon and two fish may be sockeye salmon.
