The State Registrar shall prescribe the fees to be paid for certified copies issued; for searches of the files; for filing or registration of delayed and new substitute certificates; for making corrections or amendments; for supplying documentary evidence for any such purpose; and for any special services rendered by the bureau; provided that an official verification on a form and in the manner prescribed by the State Registrar, or a certified copy when specifically needed for legal requirements, may be issued by the State Registrar without charge to an official agency of the federal, state, or local government for such agency's own use. In cases of financial need, the State Registrar may occasionally waive the collection of a prescribed fee when such service is necessary for the establishment of a needed personal or property right. All such fees collected by the bureau shall be accounted for, and paid into the general fund of the state. The fees for similar services rendered by magistrates as recorders of vital records, and the disposition of moneys so collected by them, shall be as prescribed by the Alaska Court System.
