(a) A facility that provides physical therapy services must retain, as an employee or under contract as a consultant of the facility, a physical therapist licensed under AS 08.84. If treatment is to be rendered by a physical therapy assistant, the physical therapy assistant must be licensed under AS 08.84, and the treatment must be planned, delegated, and supervised by the physical therapist. (b) A physical therapist may evaluate a patient and establish a treatment program only upon written or verbal instructions from the treating physician. A treatment program and any modification to it must be approved by the referring physician. A physical therapist may accept a verbal order of a physician. (c) A physical therapist shall perform the following duties or, if one or more of these duties is delegated to a physical therapy assistant, the physical therapist shall ensure that the duties are properly performed: (1) enter each treatment into the patient's medical record; (2) prepare clinical progress notes; (3) prepare summaries of care.
