An organization applying for course approval for training an emergency medical dispatcher (EMD) must show that it has (1) appropriate training equipment, including a dispatch console or simulator; (2) an EMD instructor credentialed by a nationally or state recognized EMD training organization, and approved by the department as being qualified to teach subjects related to EMD activities; (3) a curriculum approved by the department that provides a minimum of 24 hours of instruction in subjects related to EMD activities; and (4) a medical director who approves the course curriculum and is available to answer medical questions during the course.
