(a) All identifiable health information collected and maintained by the department under its authority in AS 18.05 or AS 18.15 shall be safeguarded as confidential and may only be acquired, used, and stored for a public health purpose and in a manner consistent with 7 AAC 27.890 - 7 AAC 27.899. (b) Identifiable health information may not be disclosed or released without the written consent of the individual who is the subject of the information except as specified in 7 AAC 27.890 - 7 AAC 27.899. (c) A public health agent in the department is authorized to use identifiable health information to accomplish a public health purpose in a manner consistent with 7 AAC 27.892. A public health agent is permitted to disclose identifiable health information only for purposes and in a manner consistent with 7 AAC 27.893.
