(a) Deleted. (b) The board will, in its discretion, license a person as a veterinary technician who (1) submits a completed application on the form provided by the department; (2) pays the application and license fees established in 12 AAC 02.350; (3) has passed the examination required in 12 AAC 68.315; (4) documents the required education and training by providing (A) official transcripts showing successful completion of a veterinary technician training program accredited by the American Veterinary Medical Association or the Canadian Veterinary Medical Association; or (B) employment verification forms completed by the supervising veterinarian verifying that the applicant has been working at least 700 hours a year for at least two of the previous three years immediately preceding the date of application, of which one year must be within this state; (5) on a form provided by the department, submits three letters of professional reference completed by persons familiar with the applicant's education or training as a veterinary technician stating that the applicant is professionally competent, reliable, and worthy of confidence; at least two letters of reference must be completed by veterinarians licensed in this state or another jurisdiction; if the applicant graduated from a veterinary technician training program within the two years immediately preceding the date of application, letters of professional reference from instructors at the applicant's veterinary technician training program may be substituted for the letters of professional reference from veterinarians; a letter of professional reference must be sent directly to the department from the person completing the professional reference; and (6) submits any other documentation that the board determines is necessary to determine whether the applicant meets the requirements of this section.
