(a) Unless otherwise specified in this chapter, the regulations in this chapter applicable to a king crab registration area also apply to the adjacent waters of the exclusive economic zone. (b) The commissioner may suspend the application of this section to all or a portion of the waters of the exclusive economic zone adjacent to a king crab registration area if the commissioner finds that (1) application of this section fails to facilitate enforcement of regulations applicable to a registration area; (2) application of this section fails to protect or conserve king crab inhabiting territorial waters of Alaska; or (3) the state has an insufficient interest in the king crab inhabiting the waters of the exclusive economic zone to warrant extension of the jurisdiction of the state to the exclusive economic zone. (c) For the purposes of this chapter, "exclusive economic zone" means all the waters adjacent to a king crab registration area and seaward to a boundary line drawn in such a manner that each point on the line is 200 nautical miles from the baseline from which the territorial sea is measured.
