(a) Except as otherwise provided in this chapter, a vehicle must be equipped with two or more stop lights meeting the requirements of (c) of this section, except that passenger cars manufactured or assembled before January 1, 1958, must be equipped with at least one stop light. On a combination of vehicles, only the stop lights on the rearmost vehicle need actually be seen from the distance specified in (c) of this section. (b) Repealed 6/28/79. (c) The stop light or lights required in (a) of this section must be mounted on the rear of the vehicle and must display a red light, or a shade of red, visible from a distance of at least 300 feet to the rear in normal sunlight. The lights must be illuminated by application of the service or foot brake.
