Section 7.27.630. Congenital heart disease screening protocol.

  • 	(a)  A provider of screening services under AS 18.15.205 shall use the screening protocol described in the department's Critical Congenital Heart Disease Screening Program: Screening Protocol, revised as of January 22, 2014 and adopted by reference.  
    	(b)  For purposes of AS 18.15.205, the following individuals are providers of screening services and shall perform screening of a newborn for critical congenital heart disease using the protocol adopted by reference in (a) of this section:  
    		(1) a physician licensed under AS 08.64;  
    		(2) a registered nurse or advanced nurse practitioner licensed under AS 08.68;  
    		(3) a physician assistant licensed under AS 08.64;  
    		(4) a direct-entry midwife certified under AS 08.65.050;  
    		(5) a hospital technician if that individual is trained by a health care professional described in (1) - (4) of this subsection to perform screening of a newborn for critical congenital heart disease;  
    		(6) a licensed federal employee working in a tribal health facility that is exempt from state licensure and who is a health care provider authorized to perform screening of a newborn for critical congenital heart disease; in this paragraph, "tribal health facility" means a facility owned and operated by the United States Department of Health and Human Services, Indian Health Service, or a facility owned and operated by a tribal organization, as defined in 25 U.S.C. 450b(l), under a funding agreement under 25 U.S.C. 458aaa-4 (Indian Self-Determination and Education Assistance Act and Tribal Self-Governance Amendments of 2000).
